The Belvedere Riverside Resource Recovery facility generates enough energy to power 66,000 homes by processing 585,000 tonnes of residual waste generated in the region each year. Two-thirds of the waste comes from London and is transported on the river Thames, keeping over 100,000 heavy goods vehicles off the capital's roads.
Colt was charged with the provision of a ventilation and smoke control system. Colt installed 1500m2 of roof mounted Labyrinth natural ventilators. The units are 5.5m wide and are self-supporting over their complete widths.
The ventilators not only ensure a safer environment within the building in the event of a fire but also reduce the temperature, thereby helping to create a more comfortable working environment within the building. Controllable louvres permit weathered ventilation for the plant.
